Excerpts From a Writer’s Workshop

–A Whisper and Stillness–

I settled onto my yoga matt as the instruction began for the two-hour movement into creativity workshop this past weekend. I was excited to see how the movement and writing were going to merge. Yoga began the workshop. I haven’t practiced yoga in over a year. The moment we began I remembered why I love it. For me yoga matches my internal flow, from movement to movement, I deepen the stretches or lengthen a stance. It suites me. I feel the kinks and tightness let go and can once again move as I was designed to move. The second half of the workshop was writing. It featured 6 prompts. The style of the workshop was to not stop writing during it, whether that meant writing the prompt again and again until other words came, or writing I hate the prompt. The prompts fell in line with so much of the work I’ve done through my blog and in my coaching, I want to share. Here are two excerpts from two prompts:

Prompt – In the dark I heard a whisper say

I am here. I am you. I am your voice of knowing.

Don’t be afraid. I will hold your hand, and you will know I am true.

In the dark I heard a whisper say, there is light, all you need to do is open your eyes.

The whisper said breathe.

The whisper said, do you feel the magic, the tingle of your fingertips, the lightning in the air. The storm raging. Do you feel the overflowing of energy through you? The need to burst free? Do you see you? Your heart? Your desire? Your darkness? Your lightness? Do you? Do you know you can love you as deeply as you wish to be loved?

I heard a whisper say, the storm is coming to pass, the rain slowing to a gentle fall…to kiss your face and tickle your nose. The sun pushing through. The world glowing upon a new beginning.

Prompt – The Stillness Underneath –

The stillness underneath, we forget to listen to. That stillness allows, shows us the best part of ourselves. It’s the quiet hours when all are asleep; when we sit and we know. Know our heart. The pain of our negative thoughts falls away. The overthinking seems to vanish. We know peace. There’s a gentleness in the air not quite like any other time of day. It’s a balm to our frenzied minds. The stillness underneath is my light, reminding me it forever has my back. It’s my resilience. My beacon. The stillness underneath is me.

Oh my goodness, Michelle! This is so beautiful!!! And isn’t it the truth- what we hide in the darkness is never as scary when brought to the light. The light is within us. The dark is too. Why do we fear what we’re made of?
